Audio cassettes? Yes
Audio 1/4" reels? Yes
Records 45 or 33? Yes
We transfer audio cassettes and TAPE REELS
that are 1/4 inch using professional gear. We also convert
sound files to Dolby Digital 5 channel AC3 files. A TEAC reel to reel
machine is used for the old tape reels and can decode the old
faded magnetic information with great true to life clarity.
WHY? To prevent further fading and also have access to
them in the event your reel to reel or tape cassette player is
broken. Records are sent into professional audio software that
searches and eliminates traces of pops and hiss.

do this at home? Free how to

All our audio cassette, reel to reel tape
and record transfers are run through a BBE
Sonic Maximizer. The tape cassette and reel to reel sound is physically restored here. Sound
waves consist of millions of tiny spikes in sound volume that
last 1/1000th of a second or less. For
example, if you drop a fork onto your counter top, it consists
of an average volume produced of maybe 90DB, but the initial
impact on the counter may have been a whopping 110DB that
lasted for 1/1000th of a second. It is these natural spikes in
the sound waves that makes the human ear hear something as
recorded or live. The recording process compresses these
spikes out. Tapes lose even more of the spikes. The sonic maximizer restores to a great degree these natural spikes for
a real and clear sound.
The sound is amazing, and real. Click here for a

Do I need a transfer for audio tapes? Yes in all cases
Tape cassettes almost across the board were
recorded on very low quality magnetic media. Video tapes, if
the high end media, can last with proper storage for 20 or
more years. As far as audio goes, even Maxell or
Memorex audio cassettes from the 1980's were, in reality, very
very low quality and were not designed to maintain their
integrity for more then 5-10 years. Each passing year now
means more information is permanently lost. There is a
process called "BAKING" that can reharden the surface decay.
Oxidation causes the particles from the inside of the tape to
rise to the surface. When the tape is played tiny amounts of
the total oxidation sometimes scrape off onto the tape heads.
We currently do not bake tapes. The reason is that it does not
improve the sound for the transfer. Why do other companies say
my tape needs to be baked? To provide a service you do not
need. CLICK HERE

HOW TO TRANSFER AUDIO
TAPES AT HOME:
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
-
Working tape player with an RCA
jack out
-
Computer with a microphone in
plug or audio in port
-
Software that can capture sound -
we recommend the very affordable
ACOUSTICA MP3 MIXER.
DOWNLOAD the FREE FULLY FUNCTIONAL TRIAL version now.
It is only $25 and it actually
works.
Plug your tape deck into the
computer microphone jack or line in port. You will have to go
to Radio Shack and buy an adapter than can convert the RCA
line to mini plug. Next turn on the computer and tape deck.
Start playing a tape and make sure you see a signal on the
tape deck.
Now start your program to record
audio. In ACOUSTICA mixer, on the main screen there is a RED
button that looks like a traditional RECORD button. Click it.
Click SHOW LEVEL INDICATOR button. Click ADJUST RECORDING
LEVELS. If you see signal coming in and hear the music on your
computer speakers you are all set. See the help SCREEN SHOTS
to the right, enlarge the MAIN SCREEN and RECORD SCREENS to
see what yours should look like.
If you do not see signal on the
ACOUSTICA screen and you have checked off SHOW LEVEL
INDICATOR, go into START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUND AND DEVICES (or
whatever it is called in the various version of windows) and
change the settings to make sure WINDOWS SOUND RECORDING is
looking at the port you are using to record. If you have
plugged into a microphone plug, make sure windows is set to
look at the microphone plug. If you plugged into a LINE IN n
the back of your computers sound card, make sure windows is
looking at the LINE IN plug.
Click the settings before you
record, MAKE SURE IT IS SET FOR 44,100KZ and 16 Bit. This will
produce a much higher quality sound. Note the sound is still
limited by the hardware you are using. PC sound cards are
typically very low quality sound even though some are marketed
as Surround Sound cards for home entertainment systems. The
best result will come from a dedicated capture card, like a
video capture card in the $200 and up range.
PROS -
CONS -
-
Sound quality will be very low,
all PC's except new generations machines with what is called
"HIGH DEFINITION SOUND" are designed to convert just enough
information to make tiny computer speakers sound OK. Even the
HIGH DEFINITION sound by INTEL in 2005 computers is only 1/3
the sound quality of a typical CD
-
Using 3rd party software can be
very difficult. They will not support it if you ask questions.
You are supposed to click around and figure it out.
-
Windows errors or improperly
uninstalled programs can cause numerous issues with video and
audio capture in windows
We send your sound via an RCA
plug into a Sonic Maxmizer to actually restore the sound. Then
the sound travels into a $400 pinnacle video capture card
which captures sound at a true 44.1KZ and in 16 bit sound.
This was the standard used on music CD's sold in the 80's and
90's. So the bottom line is you can capture sound on your PC
and get it in a form that is OK for a small portable radio. It
may sound very thin and tinny on a large surround sound system
if you use any of it in a home made DVD movie. It will also
sound terrible on a large Hi Fi sound system. Our conversions
will sound the BETTER than the original tape deck playing over
a large Hi Fi sound system, guaranteed.

Improve Audio Signal Quality –
Get clean audio captures
Most players used to capture audio are cheap tape cassette
players that may have been in the $100 price range when new,
or the cheapest reel to reel machine one could find in Ebay.
We use a professional TEAC reel to reel player. We use an
RB-800 from technics for cassette playing. Both get very high
quality professional range decoding of the magnetic tape
signal.

Improve Audio Signal Quality –
Get clear crisp sound
Recording gear in a recording lab is designed to compress the sound
signal a great deal when recording. Even in professional labs
like Imax or Paramount, signal is lost. Example, a metallic
ring of a triangle in an orchestra, not very loud but VERY
crisp to the ear due to the instantaneous spike in sound at
the initial impact of the instrument. Tapes lose all of the
super high decible impact of the ting on the metal. This
machine is designed to literally restore where it thinks the
natural sound spike occured.

and I will walk you through how to use it. I have used
Acoustica products for 3 years. They have a great interface
and work better than two other packages I own costing $400 and
$300. Our video projects soundtracks are edited using
Mavin 3D Pro, a $900 sound track editor AND this MP3 mixer,
together. Some functions are easier to control and use on the
