We use a proprietary machine. With the guts of a drycleaner, and motors and pulleys from an old projector, we have perfected a method to flatten film that is so severely damaged and warped that it cannot be played. We repair and fix damaged 8mm film and home movies.

Using pressing action, we avoid scratches on the 8mm home movie film. The 8mm film is pulled into the repair machine and each 1 foot is automatically pressed with dry heat for an interval just long enough to soften the base.

See the real client home movie film to the right. Severe warping and 8mm film damage led this person to believe their precious film was destroyed beyond rescue. We not only can salvage it, but can end up with a result that resembles medium quality footage. The straight section is repaired. The curly mess is what it looked like when we received it.

PRICE:
We do not have fixed rates as each reel's damage is unique. Typical damage like shown to the right occurs when film is exposed outside of a can and experiences large variances in humidity and temperature. As the film moistens and dries continually, the edges start to fold up. This typical damage averages $20 per 50ft reel. Small orders accepted. Prices can vary depending on the magnitude of damage, and type of damage. Missing sprockets can be repaired, though not usually cost effective. Each 5 inches of missing sprockets holes are $5.

GUARANTEE:
We stand behind our work. We guarantee that if the damage is standard warping that the reels will be returned in playable shape and that the images will be effected in a minimal way. We do not guarantee that the film will be "new" or that the images will remain as sharp as when first developed. Film usually is not returned on the same reel or reels.
