A note about pixel size:
you need to decide what size your pictures are going to be. Our equipment
can create files with sizes roughly 40MB from slides. In many cases, this is
far too large and contains a great deal of unnecessary information. As a
rule of thumb, a $500 digital photo camera, when set of "High Quality", will
make a picture with a file size of approx 1-2MB. If you select standard scan
size of roughly 2-10MB per picture, the extra copy charge is $6.95. If you
select a higher rate, your order will require more than one CD, or if you
have a DVD player in a computer, you could use a Data DVD. COLOR restoration
works better with high DPI rates. That is why we START at 1,200, the DPI
where most companies leave off.
For slides, 1,200 DPI
will produce large files approx 2-5MB. These are adequate for 5X7 prints.
2,400 DPI will accomodate 8X11 prints and cropping/blow ups. 3,200 DPI will
allow printing on 17 inch paper and a great deal of crop/blow ups. For
PHOTOS, 600 DPI will produce scans of 4X6 photos that can be printed up
to 4X6, 1,200 DPI will allow a 4X6 to roughly be printed on 5X7 or larger
and cropping.
